So, I've been thinking about labor and delivery. The weeks are skipping by and I've heard many stories (the good and the ugly) but what I really want is great tips/advice for my last trimester all the way up to birth.
I don't want the cutzie advice like....... hug her and kiss her, it's the best joy and unexpected love you'll ever experience..... I know that and can't wait for that part. I'll cherish it!
I want the hard core truth, the good, the bad and the ugly!!! Tell me like "Maxine" from the greeting cards would say it :) (I love her)!
Don't hold back.... I'll be waiting for all of your replies!
I'll leave you with 10 things I have learned thus far during pregnancy....
1. When the books say you may begin dreaming more than usual, I would like to rephrase that...... You may have the most off the wall, crazy ass dreams of your life. For example, I woke up last night about 3am with the country song, "Rockin' the beerguts", in my head. ODD! Analyze that!
2. The malt o meal, cheap brand in the bag cocoa pebbles is better than the expensive box of Cocoa Pebbles!
3. When the books say, you may begin experiencing more flatulence than usual, they mean it! I would like to add to that statement, without warning and uncontrolable. I find this not cool and a problem as I begin my first week back to school with high school students.
4. Elastic is a preggers best friend.
5. Strangers love smiling at pregnant women. I've never been given that ahhhhhh look so many times before in my life.
6.My husbands should have to experience at least a week of pregnancy and I pick which days I would like to replicate over to him.
7. I will never say again (when I'm not pregnant) that I didn't sleep well. Every day prepregnancy was better than most days pregnant. I cannot get comfortable no matter how many different pillows and positions I try.
8. I am extremely jealous of men's capability to pee standing up. It would make things a whole lot easier and quicker if I could do that.
9. I like beer a whole lot more than I realized before being pregnant. I miss it!
10. Girlfriends are the best and I would have never made it through this without them! Thank you, and I love you all!!!!
I love you Top 10! Very humorous! My advice is this...I'm all about the inducing - if you doctor even mentions - go for it! Don't let them send you home without your baby to come back and try to induce again if it doesn't work - this sounded like a good idea but was heartbreaking. Also and I'm sure you have heard this - Ask for the drugs an hour before you think you absolutely need them. The last 45 minutes waiting for the drugs were the worst and after that easy breezy (except for the 3 hours of pushing - don't do that either). Enjoy your last trimester - try to take it easy and relax!
ReplyDeleteNap, eat, and be lazy. That is my initial thought. I'll think of more I'm sure. As for labor, I wish someone would have told me to relax (OK so maybe they told me and I wouldn't listen). I mean relax while you are in the hospital and watch some TV, let someone get you ice chips and don't pay attention to what time it is or what you are "supposed" to be doing. I was so worked up about everything that I didn't enjoy very much of it. I relaxed about the whole process a little more on the second one and have much better memories.
ReplyDeleteGreat tips, ladies. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love the comment about peeing standing up...I remember thinking when I was pregnant, "the next time we are going to have to get a taller toilet". I had a hard time getting comfortable enough to sleep and I had some insomnia, so the last couple months, I would pretty much go to bed when I got home from work. I didn't always sleep, but I would just lay in bed and watch TV, and try to relax. Do whatever you want and treat yourself well the last couple months. As for the labor, I agree with Kelly. But, your first time it will be hard to relax because it is all so new. I wish I would have been able to relax a little more the first few hours at the hospital and get a little more rest, but it is hard because you are so excited...of course I didn't know at the time that it would be an all night affair.
ReplyDeleteI'm obviously not an experienced mother, but my mom keeps encouraging me (and probably you) to do a 100% natural child birth. Screw that... I'm all about an epidural! :-) I'll be more all natural once the baby actually arrives!
ReplyDeleteok im not sure what all u know about this delivery thing but i thought i would inform you that there is a possibility that you might poop on the table (no one told me bout it, i had to read bout it) and if ur nursing then lamisil (sp?) is gna be ur best friend. use it and use it often (it doesn't hurt the baby). also they have round ice packs, super helpful as well. well i hope that helps.
ReplyDeleteAfter delivery, ICE ICE ICE down there. Nobody told me...things hurt...things swell (especially if you get stitches)...the hospital should have ice packs. Ask for them often! Also, bring your boppy pillow to the hospital to sit on. As for labor and delivery, epidurals are an amazing thing...and the contractions feel more like major major diarrhea cramps than anything else. Breastfeeding - well - it hurts...a lot...at first - but it gets better, so hang in there!
